It was a dark afternoon at Upton Park
Gloom in the sky and the stands
Silenced by our dreaded fears
Final hope had surrendered the fans

But unknown to the deflated masses
One man stood tall with belief
Being wrenched by the claws of relegation
As JULIAN DICKS, found the ball at his feet

BANG! like a shot from an AK47
Left foot screamer fired home
Suddenly Upton Park felt like heaven

Keeper didn’t move an inch
Valued his hands too much
An eruption of “forever blowing bubbles”
Surely now we were staying up

In a moment the gloom had vanished
Our leader had shown us the way
the sun shone on the face of a legend
I’ll never forget that day.
