Have you ever noticed who gloats the most
When someone loses face
When a well known, well liked, guy or girl
Fails to finish in the race

It’s rarely the winner who winks and wallows,
The scorer of all the goals
The girl with the stunning looks and style
The guy with the ‘Merc’ or ‘Rolls’

The biggest smirks come from life’s loser
Pleased to see someone fall
The guy or girl whose successes in life
Are few or none at all

It’s a bit like that with football fans
The real fans of the game
On seeing the mighty Leeds go down
Will just think: “What a shame!”

Whilst those who chant obscene insults
Will revel in their plight
And scream with their usual dignity

I watched as manager David O’ Leary
Gave Leeds back their pride
And a smile and a nod of acknowledgement
Were something I couldn’t hide

Tug Charlie George’s hair
Before the Leeds of seventy-two
Drove me to despair

That team played with a passion and skill
Which I hope we’ll see again
From another Leeds team before too long
In the Premiership’s top ten
