The Handshake That Never Was

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Saturday, February 11th 2012

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Well, it must have been discussed
For it was definitely expected
And the cameras were all keenly trained
So the clasping could be detected

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 In the event, the match day mascot got it
And so did de Gea
But Evra was skipped
As both captain and player

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Then Rio added to the brio
By withdrawing his hand
And the incident has ignited
With calls for Suarez to be banned

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Adding to the post-match palaver
When dissecting the affair
A probing Sky reporter vexes
As Dalglish claims he was ‘unaware’

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 And while the masses fulminate
Fergie just adds fuel to the fire
By conveying with conviction
That there’s nothing to admire

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 We’ve seen this before –
It’s Wayne Bridge and JT reprised
But so many people let down
And not one of them pleased

Notes

Next day, apologies issued all round.
Apparently, very much instigated by the American owners of Liverpool FC.

Ian Ayre, Liverpool managing director:
“Luis Suarez was wrong to mislead us and wrong not to offer his hand to Patrice Evra. He has not only let himself down but also Kenny Dalglish, his team-mates and the club. It has been made absolutely clear to Luis Suarez that his behaviour was not acceptable”

Sir Alex Ferguson:
“Suarez is a disgrace to Liverpool Football Club,” said United manager Ferguson. “He should not be allowed to play for Liverpool again. He could have caused a riot.”

I was also pleased to hear Sir Alex Ferguson commenting on Patrice Evra’s very childish behaviour at the end of the match …

“Evra shouldn’t have jumped in front of Suarez in celebration at the end,” he added. “He shouldn’t have done that.”

Oh – the match…

Man Utd 2 Liverpool 1.

Rooney (2). Suarez (1).
