1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Makes no sense to me
Football’s a game
Enriched by debate and controversy
With perfect officials
Decisions bleached squeaky clean
We’d gain a goal or point here and there
But there’d be less need to rant and scream
Injustice, impassioned plea
Handball! Offside! Penalty!
For a cheat, a feint or a dive
Take away the drama
Opinions and opposing views
It’d be like doing the crossword
With answers given instead of clues
We like to feel hard done by
We need to think that luck we lack
It gives us the incentive
To try and get them back!

It seems generally accepted that these things even out over time. Please don’t knock any more spontaneity out of our game. If they bring in video evidence it’ll be as exciting as the 1970s computer games of
ping-pong.
