A lad with curly ginger hair
He was once, so he said, on Sunderland’s books

We worked on a car production line
He signed semi-pro for a local team

He provided it too, for that I can vouch
Though I saw him take kicks that made me go:” Ouch!”
He didn’t stay long on the factory floor
I was sad to see him go out the door

He emigrated, can’t remember where
I hope the lad made good out there
As a teenager, he was not very tall
Sixties Sunderland thought him too small

They didn’t give him a chance to grow
Yes, I know, the successes are few
There are many rejected, perhaps even you?
