Down Wembley Way the coaches roll,
with scarves, with beers and sausage rolls.
Beneath the arch so vast and white,
two ‘Hatters’ clash in London light.

In Stockport town, in days of yore,
they stitched silk toppers by the score.
Silk and felt in factory rows,
the proper ‘Hatters,’ history knows.

The debate grows fierce as the pints go flat:
“Who’s the king of the British hat?”
“Your crown’s just straw!” the County shout,
“Ours don’t melt when the rain comes out!”

Yet here we are, both marching south,
with hopeful hearts and louder mouths.
For the Vertu Trophy, shining bright,
the prize that brings us here tonight.

just two proud clubs in friendly war.
A ball, a roar, the Wembley fame,
and bragging rights at the end of the game.
