I’m old enough to remember when the Pink Un was pink Printed on paper, on match day, in ink No radio coverage, no game on TV If you didn’t go to the match, you waited, like me If you couldn’t get to the ground to see your team live You’d have to wait in the […]
Just a plain, hard plastic seat Flat clean concrete to stand my feet Toilets with paper in endless rolls Attacking football and scores of goals A short person sat in front so I can see Half-time break with a flask of tea Drawn at home for plum cup-ties Free-flowing football, how time flies No booming […]
James Alexander Gordon We all know the name Voice instantly recognised We don’t know the man But he’s part of our lives Classified football results Since nineteen seventy four He reads the first half of the fixture From that you can guess the score He has that famous inflection In his nectared vocal tone There’s […]
First home game It’s always the same Have a shower with “Grass” smell gel Full English: – cereal dish unadorned today by Weetabix Make up a flask and pocket a Twix Put on our shirts, lucky pants and scarves We sing footie anthems, don’t do it by halves “We’re gonna score more goals than YOOOUU!” […]
It’s my world, my land, my stars Each August when I smell that cut grass The pitch of glory and mud-smeared kit Dream your own ending, now this is it Anything is possible, how many points will we get Just how many times will we hit the net Bring on that day when its match […]

Hi Crispin,
Thanks for the featured poem for the Arsenal Premier League victory. I love that photo showing the Arsenal ladies and fans in full rattle and rosette mode. I’ve seen it before quite a few times and, I think, a bit iconic. I think it was before the Gunners victory against Liverpool in the 1950 FA Cup Final. Great photograph.
Thanks
Joe

Thanks for that Joe. Yes it’s been some season we had a blip but came out of it and finished strong. A mate of mine supports West Ham here in Coventry and my next door neighbour is a Spurs supporter, and both are getting edgy ! I like the Championship though as it’s competitive and has some good teams, players, and fans. Anyway we are back in the top flight and who knows what will happen ?
Cheers. Kev.
