There once was a team called Vicenza,
That strolled into town full of chutzpah.
But three goals they then shipped,
Got their ears soundly clipped,
Sure they weren’t granted any clemenza. […] -

Well I’m quite keen on football,
As keen as anyone.
Out here I follow Genoa,
In England Everton.I’ve never had a problem
With lapping it all up,
But now we have reached Overkill,
It’s all getting […] -

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose,
By any other name would smell as sweet.”
So says Juliet in her Balcony Speech.
And when we hear or read it, most nod and agree.
Only I beg to differ. Con […] -

It was thirty years ago today,
In a very merry month of May,
We’d been playing all year long with flair,
We were slicker than young Tony Blair,
So we’re calling just to remind you,
That we’re able to […] -

You may be a rock star playing sold out gigs.

You may be an inmate chalking off the days. But you gotta support […]

The Reds were celebrating,
All primed and set to party.
They thought they had the match wrapped up,
They’d reckoned without Tarky. The game was drawing to a close,
Just seconds on the clock.

Be thou in highest place or in lowest.

They said we were ungrateful,
When we sacked Allardyce.
I dread to think what folk will say,
Now that we’ve dumped Sean Dyche. But football is a business,
There is no place for ruth.
If you can’t […] -

Do you recall Everton back in the day?
In years long gone by, before Ninety-Five?Up front we had men who could stick it away,
Like Bill Dean, Bob Latchford, McKenzie and Gray. Our midfielders shone […]

Back when I lived in Blighty,
And went to football Grounds,
I’d sometimes hear a mocking chant
Around the place resound:“You’re supposed to be at home.”
Away fans they would sing,
When their team was two […] -

Selling to survive is an art.
Some clubs do it exceptionally well. They flog their star player for a princely sum,
Then unearth two nuggets that make their Ground hum.
Two young, bright prospects who […] -

The whole week long we trained hard for this match.
We practised corners, throw-ins, penalties.
And free kicks too, from fifteen, twenty yards.
Next came an hour of dribbling around cones,
To make sure […] -

But it’s clear that something ain’t quite right.

Three games played and not a single point!

Hi Crispin,
Thanks for the featured poem for the Arsenal Premier League victory. I love that photo showing the Arsenal ladies and fans in full rattle and rosette mode. I’ve seen it before quite a few times and, I think, a bit iconic. I think it was before the Gunners victory against Liverpool in the 1950 FA Cup Final. Great photograph.
Thanks

Thanks for that Joe. Yes it’s been some season we had a blip but came out of it and finished strong. A mate of mine supports West Ham here in Coventry and my next door neighbour is a Spurs supporter, and both are getting edgy ! I like the Championship though as it’s competitive and has some good teams, players, and fans. Anyway we are back in the top flight and who knows what will happen ?
Cheers. Kev.
