WC2026: SF: Shhh, don’t mention the …
We may have ‘panned the squad’, that Tuchel built;
and we’ve never forgotten,
The jump over Shilts;
Nor Beckham’s twitchy leg;
You’re never in the ‘land of nod’, when its Albion vs Albiceleste;
Tho results, have rarely been the best….
Post 66, in our angst,
we’re told to walk in someone else’s shoes,
well, in the ‘sand we trod’ since,
have left deeper and deeper footprints;
In this current heat dome,
we may be ‘tanned of bod’,
but let us hope,
the scorcher may be akin to Racey’s Rocket,
and and that we’ll have, Messi in our pocket!
Pre QF haiku
It’s the hope that kills
Lets hope that there are more thrills
Than slips, trips or spills
unconvincing England haiku WC26
unconvincing still
Bellingham and Kane provide
sweet relief at last
——————–
still weak in defence
tempo needs another shift
if we’re to advance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
how will this lot be
v the likes of France or Spain
if we’re still in this ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
don’t you sometimes find
all those qualifying games
one big waste of time ?

Hi Crispin,
Thanks for the featured poem for the Arsenal Premier League victory. I love that photo showing the Arsenal ladies and fans in full rattle and rosette mode. I’ve seen it before quite a few times and, I think, a bit iconic. I think it was before the Gunners victory against Liverpool in the 1950 FA Cup Final. Great photograph.
Thanks
Joe

Thanks for that Joe. Yes it’s been some season we had a blip but came out of it and finished strong. A mate of mine supports West Ham here in Coventry and my next door neighbour is a Spurs supporter, and both are getting edgy ! I like the Championship though as it’s competitive and has some good teams, players, and fans. Anyway we are back in the top flight and who knows what will happen ?
Cheers. Kev.
