George

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 we grew up with George
10 years before, but still in our team
gregagh youth club
so we had to do with tickets, to see Him, Him

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 the boat to heysham, train to manchester change at preston
eggs and guinness and cards and sea sick
and sick and fighting on the boat
but old trafford and Him, Him
and denis and bobby and paddy
but really Him, Him

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 walk to the ground four hours before
bad days 1971 in belfast and at old trafford
fighting everywhere, but he was there Him, Him
lost, doesn’t matter, great fight

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 on thirty years, all change, but great memories
more succesful now, “man u, who the **** are man utd?”
manchester united and Him, Him
he hasn’t changed
rascal, Him
or maybe it’s me

Notes

played for cregagh 10 years after George, feel so let down yet so privileged to see the first and indeed last british / irish superstar before the commercial / professional age. he no longer has any excuses yet he still manages to mess up but he is George… thus the capital letters only at his name and the “Him” ( as in God) references. Explains a lot about George – a deity or false deity who explains himself away no matter what, simply by being.
