Lions Coached By Donkeys (1914-1918)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 They signed up for the team with their pals
They were trained by the coaches who said
“By the end of this game you’ll be heroes”
But most them ended up dead

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The pitch was once green and peaceful
But they dyed it with bullets and blood
And there were you stand now in silence
The flowers of England once stood

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Proud in their kits they went over
Determined to make of it a match
Young faces scrubbed clean with the kisses
And wishes of all of their fans

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The whistle was blown and its kick off
And united they kept to the plan
But betrayed by the tactics of donkeys
The brave lions who took on No Man’s Land.
