They’ll Never Take My Celery From Me
¶ 1

they ask me for my Evian
they take away the top
they search me like a criminal
oh where’s it going to stop?
¶ 2

they take away the right to stand
they make us sit in rows
and if we stand they make us sit
it’s easier I suppose
¶ 3

they take away our rattles
we waved since we were boys
in case the luvvies in the suites
get woken by the noise
¶ 4
Leave a comment on verse 4 0
they only let us wave a flag
on special nights they pick
and every stick must be no more
than just a pencil thick
¶ 5
Leave a comment on verse 5 0
they charge the earth for rubbish
synthetic chips and fries
and if you’re vegetarian
they’ve only got meat pies
¶ 6

so I must smuggle salad in
as raw as raw can be
a houmous dip some carrot strips
and stalks of celery
¶ 7

it isn’t easy being green
Van Morrison would say
but they’ve no place for history
and have to have their way
¶ 8
Leave a comment on verse 8 0
and they can try to make us look
like cardboard cut-out fans
covered in expensive kits
with ever outstretched hands
¶ 9

but this I swear that while I live
wherever I may be
they’ll never ever take away
my celery from me..
