Once in A Lifetime

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 It began with a ‘C’, this club above all clubs –
Money unlimited to buy at will; and buy they
Did – but only the very best. From all over the
World they came to that metropolis, to tout
Their wares for the adoring public. An owner
Who lavished his charges with riches, but
Expected prizes and glory in return; what
Price stability on the shifting sands of success ?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Played to thousands in massive stadia, watched
By the stars of our media age; a bandwagon rolling
On and on from one season to the next. Who
Could stop it – this cavalcade, this circus of the
Spectacular…distorting competitions and cups
By the power and strength of their supersquad.
All that attention, all that publicity, all that glamour
Went too far; the bubble burst and the dream died…
