Early Leavers

For their big match, they wait all week
Still ten to go and out they sneak
Minutes precious, like pennies to a miser
The team battles on, to grab a late equaliser
Players trudge off to warm applause
Those who remained had helped the cause
Fair weather fans who couldn’t stay
At home by the fire, meal on a tray
