They tested the soil for acidity,
They checked that the drainage was right.
They hope it will grow with rapidity
And the word on the street is, it might.

They measured the depth it was planted,
They’re keeping it safe from the birds,
They’re praying it may be enchanted
By the many encouraging words.

When the first tiny shootling emerges,
And takes its first gasp of cool air
And a secondary shoot then diverges,
They’ll stake it with uttermost care.
¶ 4

And in two years or five years or twenty,
When the air is awash with its blooms,
And the new growth is vibrant and plenty,
They’ll breathe in the fragrant perfumes.

‘Tis a mighty long road they’ve to travel,
From a seedling to powerful tree.
Let the string slowly start to unravel
As we hail Sporting Fingal FC.
