National Team Manager

A ‘National Team’ represents a nation
Not just some governing board
Football was once our salvation
No outsiders allowed from abroad
So why do they keep saying ‘National’
If an Italian’s running the show
A foreign gaffer just ain’t rational
This is England not Italy you know
We should pick a name like Ramsey…
Churchill, Montgomery or Moore…
Winterbottom, Redknapp or Garnet…
Even Shakespeare or George Bernard Shaw
Imagine England’s finest classics
Influenced by an Italian idea
Hamlet’s most famous verbal
Would end in a loud “Mama Mia!”
So please cancel the contract
Send him packing British Airways to Rome
And appoint a true ‘National Team Manager’
One who calls England his home.
