Plea From The Heart

Twenty four quid is impossible to justify, even
For the odd match – just now and then. We’ve
Been priced out of it, us ordinary blokes who
Still love the game, but can’t keep pace with
Modern times and modern values…cash is
Fine, or the credit card if you prefer (doin’t
Forget the booking fee, sir).

Slash the cost, fill the empty seats,
Bring football back to the people
Who matter; a stadium packed is
Worth more than an echoing shell.

Better still, bring back terraces – the kingdom
Of kindred spirits on an old Saturday afternoon.
