Years ago Highbury
was likened to a library:
great Gunners goals greeted
with a smattering of
polite applause and little else.
Now Town’s caretaker Budgie
chirps up by comparing
County Ground to a
morgue.
He’s right, dead right.
Fans sitting in silence,
discussing the merits of
Saturday shopping with
the missus instead of
singing to support their team.
Some only make their
voices known to have a moan,
to find a scapegoat for
the collective ills of their team.
All seater stadia have
killed the atmosphere;
perhaps a return to
standing areas in grounds?
Or maybe fans need to be
reminded as to why they
go to games.
