All The Time…

Leave a comment on verse 20 0 Every four years this happens…

Leave a comment on verse 21 0 The ‘not-knowing’…

Leave a comment on verse 22 0 The bets on who will win

Leave a comment on verse 23 0 Is it all even worth it?

Leave a comment on verse 24 0 Because no matter what the scores will be…

Leave a comment on verse 25 0 The World Cup is a national event…

Leave a comment on verse 26 0 It’s the bringing together of all the countries…

Leave a comment on verse 27 0 Even enemies will be re-united…

Leave a comment on verse 28 0 Just for a split second of the laughter,

Leave a comment on verse 29 0 and not caring for anything else…

Leave a comment on verse 30 0 The excitement is extraordinary…

Leave a comment on verse 31 0 It fills the crowd with joy…

Leave a comment on verse 32 0 Just to see the players arrive…

Leave a comment on verse 33 0 Is like the best thing you could imagine…

Leave a comment on verse 34 0 For the game is just beginning…

Leave a comment on verse 35 0 And no-one knows what could lie ahead…

Leave a comment on verse 36 0 The adrenaline rush the fans get…

Leave a comment on verse 37 0 When a GOAL is scored!

Leave a comment on verse 38 0 The atmosphere goes wild. CRAZY maybe…

Leave a comment on verse 42 0 We played our best,

Leave a comment on verse 43 0 But I made a mess,

Leave a comment on verse 45 0 I can’t believe it.

Leave a comment on verse 46 0 The crowd complained,

Leave a comment on verse 50 0 But it was too late,

Leave a comment on verse 52 0 The ref must be blind.

Leave a comment on verse 53 0 Can we come back?

I’ve Done it

Leave a comment on verse 80 0 A light flickers bright as the sun on a clear day,

Leave a comment on verse 81 0 The crowd’s cheers bellow through and through,

Leave a comment on verse 82 0 Well the moment’s here, it’s time to play,

Leave a comment on verse 83 0 The anthem plays, the crowd all singing like they do.

Leave a comment on verse 84 0 Colossal stadium surrounds me.

Leave a comment on verse 88 0 The ball rolls to me,

Leave a comment on verse 89 0 I look down in amazement

Leave a comment on verse 90 0 Why was it that everything in my life could be so simple?

Leave a comment on verse 91 0 And now the smallest white piece of leather

Leave a comment on verse 92 0 could cause my downfall.

Leave a comment on verse 93 0 Why me? Why now?

Leave a comment on verse 94 0 Suddenly I feel an urge of energy pelt through me

Leave a comment on verse 95 0 As in an instant I kick towards the goal.

Leave a comment on verse 96 0 Silence fills the stadium for as little as half a second,

Leave a comment on verse 97 0 Though it feels like a lifetime ago to me.

Leave a comment on verse 98 0 Then without knowing what’s happened

Leave a comment on verse 99 0 I hear a sudden roar.

Leave a comment on verse 100 0 The heat must have got to me, this couldn’t have happened!

Leave a comment on verse 101 0 Is it me? I’m not sure.

Leave a comment on verse 102 0 I’m being lifted from my surroundings, then it hits me,

Leave a comment on verse 103 0 I’’ve done it! I’ve won the World Cup!

Leave a comment on verse 104 0 I lift the trophy with satisfaction

Leave a comment on verse 226 0 I think it’s a bit overrated,

Leave a comment on verse 227 0 But it’s back because of popular demand.

Leave a comment on verse 228 0 I’m not a fan of football,

Leave a comment on verse 229 0 I have other things to do,

Leave a comment on verse 230 0 But the sight of football fanatics everywhere,

Leave a comment on verse 231 0 It’s something I must get used to.

Leave a comment on verse 232 0 But when the day comes where our country is playing,

With thanks to Vicki for organisiing it all and for filing all the poems.

Before England played Algeria a lively World Cup workshop took place in the library at Maidenhill School in Stonehouse near Stroud with Crispin who was back making a return visit. .Year 7 students discussed and wrote present tense/in the moment poems – on just what the World Cup meant to them. Students were asked to imagine being a player, a fan or anything-anywhere when the World Cup is taking place. Read now in the light of day, as Vicki in the library points out, the optimism is great….if not the results on the field!
But well done the students and well done Spain.
