Ghost of Christmas Past Haunts The Hawthorns

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The shortest war in History
was between Zanzibar and England in 1896.
Zanzibar surrendered after 38 minutes.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 At least it was mercifully brief.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Our capitulation
is now entering its second month. Our slide
from the dizzying heights of ‘place in Europe’ resembles
several extremely unfortunate rolls
in a nightmarish ‘Snakes and Ladders’.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Our Christmas spirit

a soft goal, an undefended corner, a penalty miss.

taken on the guise of one Ebenezer Scrooge
and refuse to give the spot kicks so rightfully ours.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The Ghost of Christmas Past
has not been kind to us.
My only hope is it was all the result
of an undigested piece of cheese; an alcohol-induced
nightmare of things that needn’t be.
I want to wake up
