The once special F.A. Cup.

The Matthews final
Montgomery’s save
Stan Mortenson’s hat trick
Bert Trautmann the brave.
Community singing
A hundred thousand in song
On the Wembley terraces
Where our memories belong.
Hand knitted scarves
Flat caps and rosettes
The capital in May
Days we’ll never forget.
Seeing the twin towers
For the very first time
Adrenalin flowing
A feeling sublime.
The ‘Saints’ beating Man Utd
And doing it in style
Coventry’s triumph
And that John Sillet smile.
Hereford and Blyth Spartans
The history boys
Three and Four replays
The despair and the joys.
And around Monday lunchtime
The draw for the next round
Semi-Finals contested
On neutral grounds.
And for that cup final ticket
We would bargain and plea
May these FA cup memories
Now and forever…….’ABIDE WITH ME’
