Maybe, it was my son’s friend joining us, who was the lucky charm?
Maybe it was the travelling fans?
(unlikely, we were outnumbered)
Maybe, we were just better than Benfica?
Maybe, we were just fated, to jump up and shout EUREKA!
Maybe, we had more nous, more experience, more resilience?
Maybe Ivo, wanted to make up for missing the CL final last year?
Maybe, as reigning CL champs, we were too good?

Even though when it comes to charm, he can only underwhelm?

EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL, in Amsterdam

That’s now…
11 trophies in 10 years with 9 different managers!

The match:
Torres :
scores a great individual goal, collecting a throw out from Petr Cech, spinning around his man & then taking on the keeper to slot home (admittedly against the run of play)
Cordoba : equalises from the penalty spot (handball against AZ)
Winner:
last second header from Branislav Ivanovic (who was suspended from the final of the CL the season before)

In the Build-up:

Lampard and goalkeeper Petr Cech were at pains to point out Chelsea were not in pursuit of a consolation prize in the shape of the Europa League. These serious professionals are chasing a serious trophy. As Lampard said: “The more we have been in it, the more we have grown to love it.”

Benitez was relaxed in familiar surroundings, once more declining to offer any apology when asked about comments relating to Chelsea before his arrival. Smiling he replied: “A manager has to defend his club and I’m defending Chelsea now.”

Personally, I reckon that last statement is very clever, and deserving of a ceasefire!
