Withdrawal

Doctor! Doctor! Here’s the problem:
watched too much football.
Now the World Cup’s over,
I am suff’ring from withdrawal.
I’d like it if you’d write a scrip
and tell my wife and boss
I need to take a little trip
to mitigate the loss.
Maybe to the German Lakes?
The season starts there soon.
Long enough to shed these shakes.
Perhaps until next June?
If it’s severe, I could stay here,
across the ocean, west.
The drug’s diluted, but they’re playing
now in MLS.
I thought about some time in England;
wean me from addiction,
but, If I catch their World Cup blues
I’d have a worse affliction.
