Summer Bites

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 My name is Luis.
I play football.
I played a few games in one tournament
and that is all.
There was a man.
He did not want me to score.
Then, my teeth ran
into his shoulder, and I did not play anymore.
I tried to explain it. I apologized,
but I am a striker. I am not a defender.
The main bit, I realized,
is that it turned out to be a summer vacation extender.
It was not like before, when I used my hands
stopping a score. This time it ruined my plans.
Then, after the tournament faded,
I was traded,
to Spain
where, it is plain,
they like biting.
I guess to them it is like bullfighting.
Did I forget to mention
I am serving a suspension?
I might have to spend the rest of my vacation
at court (some new sport called arbitration?)
Summer was awful:
“Stop biting Luis! Be lawful,”
they all yelled, but worse yet:
the internet.
Everybody knows.
I guess that’s just the way it goes.
Summer bites.
Long days and nights
with nothing to do.
Does that sound fair to you?
My name is Luis
I am not perfect. Who is?
So, that is what I did on my summer vacation:
Played. Bit. Trade. Sit. My teammates stayed after I quit.
I am afraid that is it.
