He had worked quite enough for one day.
He’d a roof and warm clothes and some food,
and a wife and some children he’d not seen enough,
and a habit that did him no good.

So, he’d stopped for a spell at the pub;
found some friends for some job decompression,
but he’d been home by seven with most of his pay

He had worked quite enough for one day;
earned the smiles, his reward when they’d see him.
With a hug and a kiss, they recalled what they’d missed,
as they vowed that someday they would be him.

He had worked quite enough for one day,
but he grew as he sat down for dinner
in his usual place: bowed his head, found some grace,
like a postgame when you’ve found a winner.

as he mustered his poorest defending.

He had worked quite enough for one day.

to play, or to watch with a pint, or some scotch.
Either way, one must say, it’s a good call.

He had worked quite enough for one day.
There are more things to life than just gold,
Someday he’ll remember these times spent at home
with his family before they grew old.

He had worked quite enough for one day
He’ll be back here before nine tomorrow,
with the knowledge he’s blessed,
he can work like the rest,
and our time here’s just something we borrow.
