Couldn’t divide us
In the seven a side final that day
T’was right cut and thrust
Or a right two and eight
Depending on who has their say.

Up stepped
A nervous young schoolboy
To take aim
With a squint
In his eye.

To me story
Resting on that one last try.

Expecting a tap to his left
Dived like a swan in the park
But I was too clever
So I fooled him I guess?
By knocking it over the bar.

Going ballistic
As me miss instigated near riot
While me father
From Cork and a man of few words
Kept his take on me err
Kinda quiet.

As I sat there in tears
Somewhat humiliated
Dejected, right downcast and flat
I’ll never ever forget;
“Jaysus bhoy will yeese get up out of there
Yer showing us up,
After making an awful pigs ear of that!”
