The Sweetest Times

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The sweetest ball I ever struck
jumped up (a divot – bit of luck),
and flew, topspin, o’er keeper’s head.
“Do it again,” the Scotsman said.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The sweetest girls I’ve ever known,
are front of mind when I’m alone.
The days can never be that bad
when you’re a Mom or you’re a Dad.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The sweetest times in life, it seems:
family, football, divots, dreams,
good goals scored, and children born,
boots and booties being worn.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 So, …

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 … when you’re down and feeling stuck
recall that divots may bring luck.
Let daughters’ voices soothe your head.
Get to what the Scotsman said.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Uncertain, though, the age we live in,
we know we will be forgiven
the small things. The greater crime’s
the missing out on sweetest times.

Notes

Inspired by a discussion of the sweetest strikes on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in North Toronto with a friend, mentor and footballer, and by Claire and Gillian. Strike it sweetly. Do it again. TM
