You’ve been freed, Peter Reid

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 talk about kicking a man when he’s down
especially one, too po-faced to be a clown
one who looks ever so weary
who wouldn’t have a countenance too cheery
and then in answer to the obvious query
an unemployed David O’Leary
jumps in with both feet
“I’d love to meet …. and chat …. with the top Black Cat”
“though of course, I’m gutted for my friend”
but he’s caught up in the trend
of hire and fire
when expectations are higher
than the mire
that pulls and drags, a giant down
and as the fans frown
executives react, to that fact, and so a pact
between unlikely bed-fellows
is formed, to quieten the bellows
from the stands
and soon, it’s all hands
to the pumps, and as one jumps, another is pushed
however bushed, or whacked or tired
the players may be, it is the manager that is fired,
retired, or put out to pasture
in comes another, most likely nastier
but the outgoing incumbent, can finally relax
the axe, may have swung, but now’s the time to live life to the max
make tracks, to the nearest golf course, and swing all day long
wallow in wine, women and song
it’s time to have some fun
now that it’s done …. that dirty deed – you’ve been freed
so cheer up please, Peter Reid
