Caught Them On The Hop

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Favourites for the drop,
Caught them on the hop.
Bolton Wanderers is the name;
We know how to play the premier game
Playing fancy clubs with fancy names.
To the Trotters it’s all the same.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Our winning formation 3-5-1-1
Got us promoted from Div 1
We have taken our third scalp in a row
Our premier class is beginning to show.
Big money we haven’t spent
The Bolton team is heaven sent.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Leicester 5-0 win away,
That certainly made Taylor’s day!
A solid win against the Boro,
A fine performance, it was thorough.
To the Reebok, Liverpool did come,
Bolton sent them home feeling glum.

We’ve rammed your comments down your throats.
Perhaps you forgot we had Big Sam.
No team in the premier have a better man.
Bolton Wanderers are here to stay;
We might still be top come next may!

Notes

Written for Big Sam in 2001

Looks like big Sam Allardyce ex Bolton Wanderers Manager could become England’s new team manager…to celebrate here is the football poem I wrote for him when he took little Bolton to the top of the Premier league at the start of the 2001/2002 season: It is called caught them on the hop. Apparently Sam loved the poem and pinned it on his office wall for the rest of that season.
