Taking A Day Off
¶ 1

Taking a day off
We race to the park
Our laces undone
Our coats flapping
In the wind
Our faces cold
Our hands cold
But indifferent
And the football
Our patient friend
Is waiting…

Taking a day off
From the rituals
And yawns and
Battles and wars
We race back to youth
We embrace childhood
With each kick of the ball
With each goal
Scored
With each muddy shoe
Lost each heart restored.
