Tommy Smith RIP

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 With their captain at the helm
The Liverpool fans never worried
For their hard-hitting number 4
Was hewn from rock, as per Shankly.. “aye, quarried”

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 They said that Merseyside mothers kept his picture on the mantelpiece
To keep their kids away from the fire
And his team mates knew the pyrotechnics that would ensue
If they didn’t match his desire

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 And yet the “Anfield Iron”
Was respected by all of his peers
Even if he’d just nudged, budged or bludgeoned
And reduced even the best, to turmoil and tears

Notes

Clik on tour

Catching up on football news, in the land where “football” is thrown and caught.

When i was a kid, Ossie the King featured in my dreams, Tommy Smith featured in my nightmares. No doubting though, he was the man that every team would have loved to have.

God rest his soul.
