Voices From The Playground

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 If playgrounds could talk
About all the games which have transpired
Upon their unforgiving skin
They would surely chatter
For an Ice Age and a day.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Each bouncing ball speaks
For the imagination of the schoolboy
Who thundered home a goal
Or timed a tackle flawlessly
Portraying the heroes of their day.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Marks on the concrete explain
The hours spent where they shouldn’t be
Breaking up the monotomy
Standing on the play side
Facing against the work that fills the day.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The rattle of the cushioning net stll shouts
Around the boundless oasis
It seemed to shake every minute
As all tension was released
In these few moments in each day.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Some would change shoes as the feet converse
When mouths are reduced to outbursts
Often by the most serious who keep score
While the rest let their repression explode
With abandon and spirit to buoy their day.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 The inside is a familiar enemy that bellows
It knows we must return to its haven
Instead of staying out in these elements
Which throw up change and growth
With an astounding intensity for just one day.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Time to walk away the conscious demands
Slaves to the ball as well as to the bell
Pick up our bags of responsibility
Back into the routine of the grindstone
But we’ll run carefree once more another day.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 So the playgrounds awaken into whispers
Breathing in the periods of silence
Calmness restored with empty space
Begging to be filled with activity
The wait is going to be less than a day.
