Talking To Kenny

School was dull boring little to say
And you weren’t to be found on the dusty shelves
Of unread books
What books could bring to life your colours?
None that I read
But on a bus into town
On the road to Melwood
Beneath the determined rain
Of those grey Liverpool skies
A clash of boots across the park
Expletives drowned out by the gasps
That fell tumbling from the mouths
Of your disciples as your miracles
Poured freely from such immaculate timed passes
And at such times as these I knew Jesus rose
And we all stood here together
Hoping like Mary Magdalene
To catch just another glimpse of the Messiah
And God must have been in Liverpool that day
Because our prayers were answered
And when you came over to where we stood
Waiting for you to leave the field
I asked for your autograph with the only piece
Of paper i had, an unfinished English essay
That no one read because I never handed it in…
You signed your name on it.
