Prices ’95

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 For the Stroud Football Poets

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Prices ’95
(revisiting Leicester City’s Filbert Street ground: Division 1, vs Watford – we won 1-0 )

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Whilst the footsteps had faded
– they all motored to the ground –
I kept to old money,
Walking, football-bound.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 One pound fifty for a programme
Well at least it had alot in
But one pound fifty for a programme,
Some might even call it a sin.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 At the gate I held a tenner
But it was thirteen pounds to go in,
Squashed onto a seat
Some might also call that a sin.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Several millions for the players
Not even the Premier League,
Well I did enjoy the match
But now I’m left with financial fatigue.

Notes

After seeing the Football Poets in action in 1996, I was inspired to “create” three very modest pieces of my own whilst running over the lanes and commons around Stroud. Stuart still reminds me and encourages me to submit them to the Net – so here’s piece two of three …
I started going to see Leicester City play in the late fifties when I was about 10 years old; although I hardly see them live now, I’ve been a supporter ever since. … perhaps I’ll review Prices ’95 in this new Millennium!
