Sick With Greed

World Cup fever
A curious malaise
Where the ordinary man struggles
To achieve a paying day
Yet cheers on millionaires
To gorge on bigger apples
With no loyalty or pride
But desire to elevate the status
Of their money wasting wives
Success secures new sponsorship
Opportunities to pose –
-they fill their boots –
They can’t fill the boots of men
Like Charlton, Hurst and Moore
Who earned their World Cup medals
But expected little more
Our current birds of avarice
Expect money to open doors
Their life is lived through lenses
And sifted through for lies
Excess means much less
To those who, from need, grow wise
