PROMOTION HOPEFULS

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Eleven games in
and the radio says
we re promotion hopefuls.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 I can hardly believe it,
after Awful August:
we couldn’t find our way through the Forest,
were crapped on by pigeons in Barnsley,
and were bottom of the pile after wandering
aimlessly round the pitch at Bolton.
Promotion was as unlikely
as Jamie Oliver dishing up burgers
from the Brummie Road End.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But here we are – fifth!
Throstle chests puff out proudly
all the way from Sheffield
to the door of The Wagon & Horses.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Promotion hopefuls!
Terry repeats, shaking his head wistfully….
What do you think they’ll be labelling us
in May? I enquire,
inbetween pork scratchings.

Notes

Gary Megson’s first full season in charge. We, surprisingly, finish in the Play-offs where we blow a 2-0 lead in the first leg, to draw 2-2 with Bolton; before losing the 2nd leg at the Reebok Stadium 3-0.
