Smash grab at Molineux
Wolves 2-1 Liverpool
At Molineux it’s Captain Fantastic
Pulling out his shoulder trick
Hendo rising to Trent’s call
VAR confirms no handball
With the Reds truly on the rack
Wolves advance as a deadly pack
Adama Traore cracks the gun
Jimenez makes it one one
Six minutes and time for a winner
Up steps the Bobby Dazzler
Unbeaten since the start of the year
Liverpool go sixteen clear

Alisson magic seals United win
Liverpool 2-0 Man Utd
Virgil heads in cool as you like
As Liverpool continue to climb
Bobby falls foul of the V.A.R
Salah counters in injury time
Olympian Alisson sprints up the pitch
Beating all his Red men
Salah assist for Anfield’s number one
Since Reyna in 2010
Goals in every single game
Seven clean sheets in a row
Ninety one points from ninety three
Most assists from Trent’s big toe

More records break as Firmino sinks Spurs
Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool
Liverpool dumbfound football
In the best-ever start to a season
“Doesn’t feel special somehow!”
Is Jurgen Klopp’s reason
Firmino’s first-half goal
Turning Japhet Tanganga
With a sweet left-foot drive
To beat Gazzaniga
Another impressive clean sheet
They’re still not quite through
Liverpool are breaking records
To dare is to do

New year baptism for Blades
Liverpool 2-0 Sheffield United
Van Dijk goes diagonal, Baldock slips
Robertson’s left foot swish
We’re ahead after four minutes
With a steady Mo Salah finish
Alisson to Robertson, zips to Mane
The pass to Salah in the D is pure
Sprinting behind to accept the return
Henderson saves but Mane makes sure
A record for everyday Sadio
He’s a goal for each and every day
Minamino is now in the house
To boost Jurgen Klopp’s cabaret

Decade ends with Reds in driving seat
Liverpool 1-0 Wolves
It was Lallana’s collar bone
Cue mayhem in the Red zone
Mane slots past Patricio
Until VAR halts the flow
Goal stands the replay showed
Mok and Mosh rock the Anfield Road
Neto and Wolves have one ruled out
Jonny with the offside flout
Wolves contingent not amused
For Ref Taylor theirs resounding boos
This decades come full circle again
Since Roy Hodgson in 2010

Beaten Brendan is outfoxed
Leicester 0-4 Liverpool
Could’ve been two in the first minute
Then Firmino caught them cold
Dropping the ball on a sixpence
Was Trent Alexander-Arnold
Counter attack and a penalty
Soyuncu’s arm from a corner
First touch coming on as a sub
Cool as you like James Milner
Bobby’s second, Liverpool’s third
As the brilliant Reds run amok
Trent gets the goal he deserves
With a fourth so sweetly struck

LFC: World Club Champions!
Liverpool 1-0 Flamengo (AET)
In Madrid it was Spurs
Chelsea in Istanbul
In Doha we saw off Flamengo
That is quite the bagful
It was Bobby broke the stalemate
For Jurgen the big rebel
And lead the first English side
To an international treble
6 times European Kings
18 championships at the start of play
World champions, never ever
That all changed today

Slick Salah at the double
Liverpool 2-0 Watford
Just when Watford come out the shell
Klopp rings the Anfield bell
His Reds fly up the other end
Salah is sweet on the bend
Liverpool not their best by far
Origi gifts to Salah
Nutmegging Kabasele to seal the deal
Throw in a brilliant backheel
Alisson to thank for a clean sheet
Keeper, custodian, athlete
Redmen steady, still on the up
Now a matter of the Club World Cup

Cherries chopped as Reds extend record
Nineteen minutes for the death knell
Three goals in a devastating spell
Ake’s subbing enhancing the flow
A blitz from the returning trio
With that came the winds of change
Oxlade-Chamberlain from close range
Ramsdale beaten with a volley of class
From Henderson’s pinpoint pass
Salah’s genius back heel despite the squeeze
Keita slotting home with ease
Paying back the Reds Egyptian star
Game over Mohamed Salah

Reds record run equalled
Liverpool 2-1 Brighton
No need to worry
Your hitmen on strike
When the Seagulls came to Anfield
They met Virgil Van Dijk
It’s now 31 games
Klopp’s Reds are in a bubble
Matching the record run
With big Virg at the double
Alisson sees red
Adrian is far from coy
Sloppy wall for Dunk’s free kick
But a super stop from Mooy

‘You’re Supposed To Be At Home’ is an excellent and moving poem Denys.
You start off thinking it’s just about another oft-sung chant, one we personally heard a lot last season throughout our second relegation in a row here at Forest Green(FGR) ! I always love poems where you think they are saying one thing and then they suddenly pull you deeper to somewhere or something else else.
I’m currently helping in a local school for FGR in a voluntary capacity using football to help young students with reading. At an upcoming session we will tackle racism, just like we did in workshops at football schools and grounds when we first started this site 24 years ago. I’m gonna try and weave your poem into a session.
We’ve added it to the Anti- Racism/Kick It Out section under Crispin’s Corner.

Great poem Mike Bartram. Eddie was a legend, affectionately known in Liverpool as, “the first hooligan.” Even the hoolies were well dressed in those days. The amazing thing was he was only 26 when that picture was taken. He’d played for Everton youth team and was well known to the players. He never got arrested. They threw him out and he climbed back in, just in time for Derek Temples winner.
I used the picture of him being tackled to the ground on the front cover of my book, “Once Upon a rhyme in Football.” It’s worth looking on youtube and finding the re-enactment of the Wembley scene. Frank Skinner and Baddiel went around to Eddies home in the 1990’s and acted it out on the green outside. It’s hilarious, especially all the effort they put in to get Eddie sober enough to shoot the scene.

Hi Denys…
Re Man City:
OK it was 20 years ago but Criag Wilson did write this and a few others on them back in 04/05.
BTW I’m more Forest Green Rover since 2014 (and Chelsea) these days . I drum and am a standing season ticket holder .

Hi Denys,
Yes Richard Williams you’re a brilliant wordsmith, my friend. When I first saw your football poetry I thought it was the superb Guardian sports and music writer. I once had the honour of sitting next to Richard Williams while at the Independent on the sports desk. He writes about music and sport with immense knowledge and authority. I’ve read a couple of Richard’s books recently. Great writer rather like you Richard Williams the Pompey fan. Congratulations on promotion.
