A brief History of Liverpool FC

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Did you know that we once played in blue?
When we were formed in 1892.
Thankfully 3 years later, Everton’s legacy was dead,
When we swapped the old blue shirts for the now world-famous red.
Everton had played at Anfield, as to them the club was leased,
Until John Houlding bought it, and the rent he then increased.
Everton weren’t having it, they refused to pay the rent,
So they upped and left, and off to Goodison Park they went.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 So in 1892, Houlidng who owned the Sandon pub,
Set up Liverpool FC, and formed a brand new club.
The ground didn’t have a changing room, so players had to abandon,
And trudge across the road to get changed in the Sandon!
McKenna and Barcley jointly managed, until ties they did sever,
And were replaced by Tom Watson, the longest serving ever.
He won the championship twice, and in ’06 finished top
So the club celebrated by building the Spion Kop.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 When Shankly came in ’59, we were in division 2
He lifted us to division 1, then went and won that too!
He won the league 3 times, we’ve won it 18 time in all
No club’s record is higher in this great game with a ball.
He pioneered the bootroom, underneath Anfield’s Main Stand
Full of boots and pokey, it was anything but grand!
It was where Shankly and his bootroom boys,
Would secretly plan their master ploys.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Next came Bob Paisley, another Anfield great
Winning 13 trophies, no one’s equalled that to date.
He started as a player, then was right-hand-man to Shanks
For 44 years service, we gratefully give our thanks.
He won the Euro Cup, four times we’ve won that duel
Paisley three times, and Fagan once, have won it for the ‘Pool.
The 80’s saw three managers; Paisley, Fagan then King Kenny,
They won the championship six times, never had a decade seen so many.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The FA Cup has been won six times, which such skill and finesse,
Twice each by Shanks and Dalglish, and once by Houllier and Souness.
We’ve also won the UEFA cup, three managers have led,
Shanks and Paisley in the 70’s, then in ’01 with Ged.
We first lifted the League Cup back in 1981
We’ve now won it seven times, a record equalled by none.
It’s been known as the Milk Cup, Coca-Cola, Worthington, now Carling,
Which brings us to the present day, captained by Stevie G our Anfield darling.
