I lifted her up in my arms
My doting daughter deep asleep
In my limb locked cradle

Yet not everyone shares my fortune
For instance, the McCann’s
And given the day that’s in it –
All those associated with 9/11

And tonight, anniversary night
Will bring that dreaded dream :
Falling Man
But why these thoughts so extreme?

I guess it’s because I feel empathy –
My daugter’s the same age as Maddie
And many moons ago
I worked at the World Trade Centre

Morbid enough, I didn’t need
My hamstring tearing again
But at least I was alive to play
And be the happiest of men

Lo, sometimes we need to be self mocking
To counter balance the shocking
So if you find my prose mischevious
And the football frippery frivolous…
