malfunctioning, my Mom unhappy, frustrated

I’m on the phone, crouched to unplug, upend
the box; the phone cord at full stretch I read

a signal to the box, gets an error code, there’s
nothing to do, I hand the smudged cream phone

I put away the Lactaid, bananas, string beans.
