Close season / Cave dwellers

The sound of the crowd
Dissipated
By dint of time
The calendar calling
For summer fun
Fine, for some
But to us, a big, black hole
Akin to a cave
And lo, we must behave
Like big brown cuddly bears
We retire from day to day affairs
Drawn into hibernation
Ridiculed, with relentless consternation
From familial, social, or spousal
Interruption
Yet no amount of arousal,
Bribery or corruption
Can drag us from our slumbers
Until we hear once again, those magical numbers :
7 (Beckham), 11 (Giggs), 25 (Zola), 9 (Hasselbaink / Viduka / Shearer)
10 (Owen / Di Canio / Bergkamp / Rivaldo / Zidane), 14 (Henry),
1 (Seaman), 16 (Keane), 18 (Scholes),
4 (Vieira), 6 (Adams / Desailly), 29 (Ferdinand)
4-4-2 / 3-5-2 / 5-4-1
3-2, 4-1, 3-0, 2-0
etc, etc
