Coming Home

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 First home game
It’s always the same
Have a shower with “Grass” smell gel
Full English: – cereal dish
unadorned today by Weetabix
Make up a flask and pocket a Twix
Put on our shirts, lucky pants and scarves
We sing footie anthems, don’t do it by halves
“We’re gonna score more goals than YOOOUU!”
Check we’ve got our season tickets one more time
Walk to the ground, listen for the sound of the crowd
Down the hill, along the river, past the train station
Cut through Riverside, away fans not allowed
Pass the stores, apartments, pool, hotel
Broadcasters lorries, burger vans, crowd starts to swell
Through the turnstile
Using a plastic card which is ‘smarter’ than me
Have a wee, check the news on the concourse TV
Up the steps, find our row
See the faces of people we’ve got to know
Bawl out a chorus of On The Ball City
Now we get down to the real nitty-gritty…

Notes

Last years ‘lucky’ pants have been bonfired and the We are Premier League scarf put in mothballs. Yes, grass shower gel is part of my match day ritual (you can get it from Lush – it’s divine). Really looking forward to the new season… it’s football as we know it. Happy to give up the prawn sandwiches for a bacon butty…
