from here on in, it’s do or die
so I guess that’s why
France
took a chance
on the readiness, of the World’s best
ignoring the failed fitness test
and so it is, that ‘Zizou’
replaces his understudy Micoud
the French, ready to gamble
that even at a ramble
he could overcome the Danes
as well as his aches and strains
and while the ‘water carriers’ fetch
his thigh could stretch
just enough
to do his stuff
and produce the magic
to prevent the tragic –
but it backfired
for he was unfit and tired
this risk
tsk
did it work? hell no
so I’m afraid, it’s out they go

and yes, unbelievably, they are out
“au revoir”, we all shout
but still, what a shock
if they could turn back the clock
would they have changed their approach?
worked harder for their coach?
been more fired up, more resolute?
more convincing, more absolute?
less cocksure, less condescending?
concentrated more on their defending?
(that’s the title, as well as the net,
they sure turned to be, one hell of a bad bet)
