Dear Jim!

Dear Jim!
Please can you
fix it for me
to have a decent manager –
our reward for loyalty?
In yesterday’s local paper
the list of candidates:
Bodin, White and ‘Ooh’ ShaunTaylor
opposite a photo of Ken Bates.
But Jim we need some quality,
not some hapless also-ran;
maybe little Lou Macari’d
lead us to the promised land.
We don’t want to have a new boss
who uses Town as stepping stone,
making fans and players cross
when he quits for a new home.
Dario Gradi is
just the sort for us;
knowledgeable, intuitive,
not the type to make a fuss.
In the local paper
they invite fans to phone in
to vote for their favourite:
Penney? Little? Martin Ling?
Ex managers have thrown
their hats into the ring:
first Iffy Onuora,
now even Andy King.
On various fans’ forums
they talk a load of twaddle.
“Paul Sturrock is the man,” they say;
some even talk of Hoddle.
But knowing the recent record
of the Board at Swindon Town
they’ll probably appoint someone
who will send the Robins down.
