England’s Number One

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 He’s not the only Jordan –
There’s also Henderson.
This one’s the lad decked out in green,
He’s England’s Number One.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 A reassuring presence,
Between the sticks he stands,
So far no clangers has he dropped,
A most safe pair of hands.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 He bawls at his defenders,
When they don’t give him cover,
Just like a hawk he watches them,
More closely than Big Brother.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 You may remember Gordon Banks,
Ray Clemence, Pete Shilton,
But in my mind there is no doubt
That Pickford’s Number One.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 When not on England duty,
Where does he ply his trade?
At Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Man U
Or some such famous name?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 The boy don’t play for none of these,
No, there you are quite wrong.
He earns his corn on Merseyside,
He plays for Everton!

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 8/7/18
Denys E. W. Jones
