Fathers Son

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Fathers Son

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Hey please little man
Try to tell me if you can
So you want to be a superstar.
Sometimes dreams can come true
Fantasies know who you are
Tell the world and show us all.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 I see you in me, better
Than I could ever be
Talent of gold, timing perfect
Hard work demanding sweat and
If you wish to reach the goal
Cantona or Andy Cole.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Time must pass with lots of tears
Flow down and round again
Eat your dinner, brush your teeth
Oh God what a bore
Now go to sleep.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Together through thick and thin
Homework, no not more training.
Dad please help me to achieve
Our dreams are drifting into clouds.
Never panic and toe the line
We’re behind you all the time.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 You have the skill and awesome talent
If you desire enough then you win.
Mum and Dad so proud to be
Parents of this prodigy.
Win or lose we always will
Catch you if you maybe, fall.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 I watch you sleep my loving son
Little chap lying in bed,
Dreams of footballers in your head.
Beautiful and the only one
Please stay as you are, dear Vincent.

Notes

I wrote this poem on the day my son was accepted by Charlton Athletic as a nine – year old.
I was very proud then and still am. He was lying asleep in bed and I wrote the poem the same evening.

Hopefully parents in the same position can relate to it.
