talk football over a beer,
then sink a few more
as the ground is ever so near.
Meet in the pub before the match
just got in before the heavy rain,
time to drink some pints
before boarding the train.
Meet in the pub before the match
alcohol needed to lift the mood,
it’s known as a liquid lunch
so no need then for any food.
Meet in the pub before the match
chat about new players with booze,
hoping to celebrate the teams win
but be back in the pub even if they lose.
Football and beer go together
all part of the beautiful game,
as having cups and cups of tea
would never ever feel the same.

Notes

The new season started in the Football League today and it was good to see its return.
My club Coventry City play away tomorrow at Leicester City in the M69 derby, and an early kick off as it’s live on Sky.
Always a lively encounter when these two clubs meet, and hard to predict the outcome, but the Foxes will be favourites no doubt.
I’ve penned a few verses on alcohol and football and how the two go together, and if the Sky Blues win on Sunday I’ll drink to that !
