Following Sir Bob would be no easy task
But the Anfield legacy is one built to last
Steeped in the traditions of the Liverpool Way
Bobby Robson was right when he said “Joe’s the best in the game”

A Liverpool legend, loyal to the cause
In your love for the club a red to the core
The wonderful treble when Roma were slain
Capped off a great season , your first with the reins

A long-serving redman, one of our best
27 years given, you passed every test
The songs of the kopites would ring round your ears
As you stood on the pitch drowned out by the cheers

There you in your red trackie puting the lads through their paces
Not an arrogant man you’d tidy the boots and muddy laces
And when you retired you would walk to the ground
Alongside the kopites, of you we were proud

The boys from the boot room, Ronnie and Roy
When you brought home the treble shared in your joy
And tho’ Heysel would cause you much sorrow and pain
It’s that wonderful treble that heralds your name

Heaven a rich place now with 3 of our saints
Discussing their tactics, 3 footballing greats
Each with a story a grand tale to tell
We give thanks for Joe Fagan, one of God’s finest men.
