It was kinda like
Turning up
To a party you’re not invited to…
That’s taking place in your own home.

What’s worse?
We went a goal down,
and for those out there
Who needed reminding,
The home crowd – including me –
Let our often under-performing millionaires
Know in no uncertain terms
That we wanted to see some…commitment.

Our language turned the air blue
We wanted tackles, tackles and more tackles
Challenges, passion, while across the aisle
Sitting next to A Bloke going absolutely ape (like me)
Sat A Blokes partner, earphones in,
Oblivious to it all, listening to (I presume) an i-pod.

We snatched a point at the death
When in all honesty
Our first league defeat under Guus beckoned.

Later waiting to meet up with my mate and his son
On the icy cold concourse under the stadium
I couldn’t help but wonder…what was that girl listening to,
While all about her were on the verge of completely losing it,
That chilled her out so?
