Game On

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 To those who play football
For the fun of it
Shirts dirty and ragged
And boots in need of better days
We watch you
And we are out there with you
Making your move
Taking your tackles and free kicks
Bending corners with apparent ease
Long long runs without pause
Or cause to stifle with tactics
In the days we shook off our human
Limitations and took to the skies…

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 To those who follow football
For the love of it
Here in this beautiful agonising
World with its paradoxes and uncertainties
Of this we are certain our faith holds fast
Our precious jewel peace of mind
Locks horns with the end of season ennui
Unless titles still yet to be won, and lost
Joys and sorrows building their temples
From the fickle fortunes of Man
Their battered hearts unkempt and ragged
Held hostage by the chains of football
They willing slaves and willing still to be.
